The Problem With Relying On Soil Engineering in the South Bay

OCEAN
TRAILS: The newest golf course on the other side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, less
than 15 minutes from the Palos Verdes Landfill site. There is still a lot of finger
pointing over who is at fault for this disaster. One thing everyone agrees on is
that this is now the most expensive 18th hole in U.S. Golf history.

COUNTRY
HILLS: The back yard of one of the Country Hills homes in Torrance. The Country Hills
Development is downslope from the Palos Verdes Landfill with some of the properties
in the development a mere 10 feet from the edge of the landfill. It has not been
determined that the landfill played any role in this disaster, but parts of the P.V.
Landfill have been designated prone to mudslides, as had the area where this disaster
occurred, by the California Division of Mines and Geology.

INDIAN
PEAK: A few minutes up the road from the P.V. Landfill. A massive slope failure occured
in Rolling Hills Estates destroying an entire office building.
